DWD is supporting SSE Thermal on its plans for the Keadby 3 low-carbon combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power station. The project is part of SSE Thermal’s commitment to Net Zero, and will only be built with a clear route to decarbonisation, either using hydrogen as a low-carbon fuel, or equipping it with post-combustion carbon capture technology. The project will require a Development Consent Order (DCO) and it is expected that the DCO application will be submitted in 2021.
DWD is part of an AECOM led project team and is providing planning and pre-application consultation advice. For the Stage 1 (non-statutory) consultation we prepared an adaptive consultation strategy with safe and convenient opportunities for communities to engage with the project. Key components were AECOM’s accessible and intuitive online exhibition tool and live chat feature, online advertising, and extended timescales, complemented by traditional methods such as direct mailing and newspaper advertising. Visitor numbers and response levels have been strong and DWD is now analysing the feedback and preparing for the Stage 2 (statutory) consultation later this year.
