Following DWD obtaining Full Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent in July 2018, the Lyceum School has now opened its Worship Street doors to pupils.
The co-educational primary school has relocated from a nearby site enabling it to grow from one to two form entry a provide significantly improved teaching space.
Exciting features within the school, designed by the Project Managers and Designers LXA, include an indoor living green wall, an outdoor artificial turfed play space, murals and modern classroom facilities.
The Grade II listed building is located within the South Shoreditch Conservation Area of Hackney and is also located in a Priority Employment Area where the London Borough of Hackney seek to resist the loss of office and employment uses.
Through engagement with the local planning authority, including the policy and heritage teams, both at the pre-application stage and throughout the application determination period, DWD successfully justified the loss of office use, the appropriateness of the proposed alterations to the listed building and the benefits of the change of use to secure officer support for the development. DWD also provided advice on the preparation of the S106 legal agreement.
