The Honourable Artillery Company, Islington

Mixed-Use | Education & Community

London Borough of Islington

DWD advised the Honourable Artillery Company (HAC) on obtaining the necessary planning permission to hold events at the Artillery Garden, which forms the grounds to Armoury House, the headquarters of the HAC and a Grade II* listed building.

During two periods each year (summer and winter) demountable structures are erected within the southern part of the Artillery Garden, to provide a venue and facilities for the events.  The structures are configured differently for the summer and winter periods but are always sited within the southern part of the grounds.

The site is sensitive from a cultural heritage perspective and is bordered by a number of residential properties.  DWD was therefore tasked with devising a planning strategy that facilitated flexible events, whilst also respecting the setting of the listed building and residential amenity.

DWD successfully obtained planning permission for the events with a unanimous vote at planning committee.  The success of the application was as a result of extensive consultation with local stakeholders and the local planning authority led by DWD and the HAC.
