Solar House, North Finchley

Education & Community

London Borough of Barnet

DWD were appointed by St Barnabas Church and The London Diocesan Fund to advise them on the change of use of an existing 36,000 sqft office building in North Finchley for St Barnabas Church to relocate to and to support their go+grow project.

We undertook extensive pre-application engagement with the London Borough of Barnet and consultation with local residents to address issues surrounding parking, highways, noise, design and massing.

We worked closely with the project architect, Mission Design Studios (formerly JBKS Architects), and the transport consultant to develop a scheme that received support from both the planning officer and highways officer.

Planning permission was successfully secured in June 2017. The approved scheme includes the change of use and the demolition of the rear wing and construction of a new auditorium with capacity for up to 500 people.

We have worked with St Barnabas Church to discharge the pre-commencement conditions. We are now advising them on securing advertisement consent.

Construction commenced in November 2017 and St Barnabas Church hope to move into Solar House in mid 2018.

Prior to securing planning permission DWD advised the London Diocesan Fund (LDF) on the purchase of Solar House. The LDF financed the purchase of Solar House for St Barnabas Church.
