Wylfa, Horizon Nuclear Power, Anglesey

Infrastructure & Energy

Isle of Anglesey County Council

DWD is providing strategic planning advice in relation to the submission of an application for a Development Consent Order for a new nuclear power station on Anglesey known as Wylfa Newydd.

Wylfa Newydd will include two ABWRs (advanced boiler water reactors) and will generate around 2700MW of electricity, enough to provide secure, low carbon power for around 5 million homes

Members of DWD were originally instructed in 2015 to provide advice on planning strategy and have subsequently been an integral part of the planning team, working closely with the internal Horizon team to support public consultation and preparation of the DCO, which is due for submission in March 2018.

DWD are currently preparing the Site Selection Reports to support the DCO and overseeing the production of the planning deliverables, including the Planning Statements and Design and Access Statements.  DWD are also coordinating the production of Statements of Common Ground with 20 different organisations, including the Isle of Anglesey County Council and the Welsh Government.
